CPIM alleges attack on candidate’s home, holds protest in Kamalpur

Date:

Agartala, 25th September 2026 :  Political tension has intensified in Kamalpur ahead of the Srirampur Village Committee election following an alleged attack on the residence of a CPIM candidate. The Left party alleged that miscreants backed by the BJP and Tipra Motha targeted the candidate’s home late at night.

The CPIM strongly condemned the incident and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible, along with adequate security for its candidates contesting the upcoming election.

To protest the alleged attack, the party organised a rally in Kamalpur town on Friday. The procession passed through several streets before reaching the office of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), where a delegation submitted a memorandum seeking action against the alleged attackers and protection for party candidates.

Senior CPIM leaders, including Subir Deb, Suleman Ali, Himadri Dutta and Anjan Brahma, were present during the rally and deputation programme, along with other local leaders and supporters.

Addressing the gathering, CPIM leaders alleged that the attack was part of an attempt to intimidate opposition candidates ahead of the village committee election. They accused supporters of the ruling party and Tipra Motha of using undemocratic tactics to create fear among opposition workers and candidates.

The party leadership urged the police to investigate the incident and arrest the alleged perpetrators without delay. They also called for effective security arrangements to ensure that candidates can participate in the electoral process without intimidation.

The CPIM leadership warned that if the alleged attackers were not arrested and adequate security was not ensured, the party would intensify its agitation in the coming days.
