Agartala, 25th September 2026 : Tripura Police seized contraband worth around Rs 1.26 crore in two separate operations and detained four persons, police said on Friday.
In the first operation, personnel of West Agartala Police Station seized around 193 kg of suspected ganja, valued at approximately Rs 96 lakh, from an abandoned vehicle in Agartala city early Friday morning.
According to Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala Police Station Sanjit Sen, the incident took place in the Colonel Chowmuhani area late Thursday night. A night mobile team tried to stop a suspicious vehicle during checking, but the driver allegedly sped away and entered a narrow lane.
Police chased the vehicle, but the driver abandoned it and fled. The area was subsequently cordoned off, and an Executive Magistrate and forensic team were called to the spot. During a search of the vehicle, police recovered several packets containing suspected ganja.
The vehicle and contraband were seized, and a case was registered. Police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest the absconding driver.
In another operation at Kumarghat in Unakoti district, police conducted a joint operation and detained four persons in connection with the suspected movement of contraband.
During questioning in the presence of a Magistrate and other officials, the detainees allegedly provided information about a vehicle carrying contraband. Police later searched the vehicle and recovered banned cough syrups estimated to be worth around Rs 30 lakh.Further investigation is underway in both cases.
