Agartala, 5th October 2026 : CPIM and Congress are set to face a major setback in the upcoming Village Committee elections, BJP state president Abhishek Debroy claimed, predicting that the BJP-IPFT-led NDA alliance would emerge victorious in a large number of seats.
Speaking to reporters, Debroy said the political scenario in the state’s tribal areas had changed significantly and claimed that the Left parties no longer enjoyed the support they once had.
According to him, the people of the hills had experienced a prolonged period of Left rule and had also witnessed what he alleged were instances of exploitation, oppression and extremist activities during that period.
Debroy said the electorate had now moved away from the politics of the past and was unlikely to support either CPIM or Congress in the Village Committee elections.
“I believe that CPIM will not be able to win even a single Village Committee,” he said, describing the statement as his political assessment based on his experience.
The BJP state president expressed confidence that the BJP and its alliance partner IPFT would perform strongly and that the NDA would secure a decisive mandate in the elections.
He further linked the forthcoming Village Committee polls with the political battle ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections. Debroy claimed that the NDA would return to power in Tripura in 2028 with a substantial majority.
He also appealed to voters across the state to support the NDA alliance, saying the election would reflect the changing political preferences of the people of Tripura.
