Agartala, 9th April 2024 : The Leader of Opposition CPIM Jitendra Chaudhury , has lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar urging action against Tripura BJP candidate Kriti Singh Debbarma. The complaint pertains to Debbarma’s alleged characterization of the CPIM as a “party of human killers.”
In his letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner, Jitendra who is also the CPIM State Committee Secretary, highlighted an incident that occurred on April 8th in Fatikroy of Unakoti District. According to the CPIM leader, Kriti Devi Debbarman, the BJP candidate from Tripura East parliamentary constituency, made unsubstantiated remarks referring to the CPIM as the “CPM Manush Khuner Party,” implying that it is a party involved in violence against individuals.
Jitendra emphasized that such unfounded accusations against a nationally recognized party like CPIM violate the Model Code of Conduct. He cited Sub-rule V of Part (B) of Rule 4.4.2 Sub Chapter ‘Don’ts’, which prohibits criticism of other parties or their workers based on unverified allegations or distortions. Furthermore, he pointed out that Debbarma, herself embroiled in a murder case under investigation by the CBI, failed to disclose this information in her nomination papers, contravening electoral regulations.
Expressing his disdain for Debbarma’s actions, Jitendra asserted that he refrains from engaging in such baseless mudslinging during election campaigns. He urged the Chief Election Commissioner to take appropriate measures against Debbarma for her derogatory allegations that breach the Model Code of Conduct.
