Agartala, 23rd September 2025: CPIM local committee leader Shyamal Debbarma was allegedly assaulted at his residence in Jampuijala yesterday by miscreants reportedly affiliated with the Tipra Motha party. Following the attack, Debbarma has relocated to Agartala for safety.
This afternoon, CPIM Sepahijala district secretary Ratan Saha filed a formal complaint with the Superintendent of Police in Sepahijala regarding the incident. He was accompanied by former minister Bhanu Lal Saha and CPIM leader from Bishalgarh, Partha Pratim Majumder.
Ratan Saha said that the attackers had visited Debbarma’s home yesterday, demanding that he accompany them to the Tipra Motha party office. When Debbarma refused, he was allegedly beaten and injured. Fearing for his life, he fled into a nearby forest. Police were later informed and rescued him, taking him to Jirania Hospital for treatment.
However, the ordeal did not end there. That same night, the assailants reportedly returned to Debbarma’s residence and issued further threats. For his safety, Debbarma is currently staying at the CPIM party office in Agartala.
The CPIM delegation has demanded police protection for Debbarma and urged authorities to take swift action against the accused.
