Agartala, 19th December 2024: The CPI(M) has sent a deputation to district and sub-division authorities, demanding permission to hold their party meeting in Dharmanagar. The fourth North District Conference organized by the CPI(M) North Tripura District Committee is scheduled for December 30.
An application was submitted to the Dharmanagar Municipal Council by the CPI(M) District Committee to use the Vivekananda Swardha Satabarshiki Bhavan for the conference. However, the Municipal Council denied permission, citing a conflicting Dharmanagar Mandal program on the same date.
On Wednesday afternoon, the CPI(M) District Committee met with the Chief Executive Officer of the Dharmanagar Municipal Council and the Dharmanagar SDM Sajal Debnath to discuss the issue. A memorandum was also submitted and the matter was brought to the attention of the DM Debapriya Bardhan.
CPI(M) District Secretary Amitabh Datta, MLA Islam Uddin former minister Bijita Nath, Sub-Divisional Secretary Abhijit Dey and others were present during the deputation. Datta expressed frustration over the past seven years, during which the CPI(M) has not received permission to hold meetings and conferences in Dharmanagar. “The opposition party is not allowed to hold meetings and conferences in buildings built with government money, while there are no restrictions for the ruling party,” he stated.
The CPI(M) has requested to reschedule the district conference to December 31 if permission for December 30 is not granted. Datta also demanded clarity on when they will be allowed to hold their conference within the next year if the current request is denied.
