CPIM Sonamura leader passes away in Agartala

Agartala, May 04: Manik Dasgupta, senior leader of CPM, former secretary of Sonamura sub-committee and former member of the state committee, passed away at his daughter’s house in Agartala on Thursday after a long illness due to old age. He was 84 years old at the time of his death.

He became a member of the party in 1969. From 1994 to 2014, he handled the responsibility of CPIM Sonamura divisional secretary. He was also a member of the state committee from 1994 to 2018. He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter and numerous relatives.

After his death, his body was first taken to the state office at Melarmath in Agartala.

From there, the body was brought to Sonamura sub-divisional office. The well-wishers, including party leaders and workers, paid tribute by garlanding flowers. After that, a mourning procession came out in Sonamura town with the party flag at half-mast. MLA Shyamal Chakraborty, MLA Samsul Haque, former MLA Bhanulal Saha, party leader Partha Pratim Majumdar and others joined the procession.

CPIM Sonamura Divisional Secretary Ratan Saha expressed deep grief over the death of Manik Dasgupta and said that his passing away is an irreparable loss to the party. He also opined that his uncompromising political life is exemplary.
