Agartala, 18th April 2025:  Udaipur witnessed a significant protest march on Friday organized by the CPIM demanding the repeal of the central government’s amended Waqf Act and a reduction in the soaring prices of essential commodities, including cooking gas and medicines. The march, which began and concluded at Jamtala, traversed key routes such as Central Road, Old Motor Stand, Mahadev Dighi banks, New Town Road and police station corner.

This demonstration is part of a broader wave of protests across the country, with various political parties voicing their opposition to the controversial Waqf Act. CPIM Central Committee Member Ratan Bhowmik addressed the gathering, emphasizing the widespread discontent. “Seventy-three cases have already been filed in the Supreme Court to stay the new Waqf Act. The government has been forced to backtrack somewhat, but we are determined to ensure the complete repeal of this unconstitutional law,” he stated.

Bhowmik further elaborated on the implications of the Act, asserting, “The Constitution guarantees every individual the right to practice their religion freely. This amendment is an attempt to strip people, particularly certain ethnic groups, of their acquired rights. It is unacceptable and goes against the very fabric of Bharat Varsha Sabha, where people of all religions have equal rights.”

The protest also highlighted the economic struggles faced by citizens due to rising prices. “The central government must be compelled to reduce the prices of gas, medicines, and daily necessities. These are basic needs, and their affordability is non-negotiable,” Bhowmik added, urging people from all walks of life to join the united movement.

CPIM Gomati District Committee Secretary Parimal Debnath and Wazuddin Ahmed also addressed the crowd, echoing the call for collective action.
