Agartala, March 28: The solemn observance of the 75th Martyr’s Day at Padmabil has been commemorated as citizens gathered to honor the sacrifice of three courageous women Kumari, Madhuti and Rupashri who lost their lives 75 years back in the fight against monarchy and the Titun system. The event took place with the initiative of Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) at Padmabil in Khowai.

On March 28, 1949, within the Khowai area, Madhuti, along with two other women, fell victim to the soldiers of the reigning king, igniting a legacy of remembrance and reverence. Each year, this significant day is commemorated across the state, led by the CPIM’s Upajati Ganamukti Parishad and the All India Democratic Women’s Association.

This year, the 75th Martyr’s Day was observed with due respect on Thursday morning. At the permanent Martyr’s Memorial in Padmabil, leaders including Upajati Gana Mukti Parishad central committee vice-president Ranjit Debbarma, Assistant Secretary Padma Kumar Debbarma, and other Ganamukti Parishad representatives paid homage. Similar tributes were offered at the martyr’s shrine in the district office.

Dignitaries such as CPIM Khowai Divisional Secretary Padma Kumar Debbarma, party state committee member and MLA Nirmal Biswas, DYFI state committee president Palash Bhowmik, AIKS leader Aloy Roy, and women leaders Gouri Pal and Shukla Sengupta also laid floral wreaths at the temporary shrine, among other respected figures.

The commemoration serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by these brave individuals in pursuit of justice and equality, resonating deeply within the hearts of the community.
