Critical vascular surgery saves daily laborer’s Life in GB hospital

Agartala: May 29. Doctors of GB Pant hospital have saved a life of a daily laborer by conducting a rare vascular surgery at Agartala Government Medical College.

On May 25, around 2 pm, a 40-year-old daily laborer named Aret Bahadur Molsom, a resident of Tulamura, Udaipur had received severe cut injuries on his leg veins and aorta area with electric cutting machine while working in Nagerjala Bus stand to install a submersible water pump.

He immediately became unconscious soon after blood started coming out. He was immediately rushed to the Trauma Care Center of AGMC and GBP Hospital. After seeing the doctor on duty from there, information was shared to the CTVS department. Immediately the team of CTVS department went down to see the patient and then has decided to for an emergency surgery and the patient was immediately transferred from the trauma center to the CTVS department.

At that time the patient was unconscious and the patient’s oxygen level was very low. The patient’s hemoglobin level dropped to 3%.  The patient’s blood pressure was not measurable.

Cardiac anesthetist Dr. Manimoy Debbarma and Dr. Surajit Pal rushed him to the ICU and started emergency medical services.

A few units of blood were collected and the patient was taken to the CTVS operation theater shortly after. An eight-member surgical team led by Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharya performed a four-hour-long operation. The operation showed that all the aorta, veins and nerves of his left leg were severed. At the end of the operation, the patient was put on ventilation in the ICU. Currently his condition is stable and he is breathing normally.

In medical terms, this operation is called emergency vascular surgery. Apart from Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharya, there are two anesthesia specialists in this operation. Other nurses and technicians who were present were Surgeon Assistant Sudipta Mondal, Ratan Mondal, IT Technician Amrit Murasingh, Perfusionist Sujan Sahu, Nurse Arpita Sarkar, Moushumi Debnath, Abhadur Jamatia, Pranakrishna Deb, CTVSI IR Coordinator Abhishek Dutta, Richashree Sarkar, Johnson Debbarma and others were present.
