CS chairs meeting on ‘Mission Life’ public awareness campaign on climate change

Agartala: May 22. Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha on Monday chaired a high level meeting to create a mass awareness program about the ‘Mission Life’ program of the state government to transform the climate change prevention program into a public movement.

The initiative of Mission Life program was undertaken by the Department of Science, Technology and Environment. The meeting chaired by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, besides Principal Secretary KS Shetty, Department of Science and Technology, secretaries and senior officers of various departments were present.

During the high level meeting the Chief Secretary said that the main goal of ‘Mission Life’ is to transform the climate change prevention program into a public movement. “Climate change can also be tackled through behavioral changes. It is a campaign that directly relates to every individual”, he said.In the meeting, Director of Department of Science, Technology and Environment Animesh Das highlighted all the possible behavioral changes in personal daily life and development of environment-friendly habits to protect the environment.

He elaborated on the ‘Mission Life’ campaign program of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India through a pictorial report.He said, “’Mission Life’ awareness program has been created mainly based on 7 issues. The 7 topics include energy conservation, water conservation, reduction of single-use plastics, waste-free eating habits, waste management, healthy living, e-waste reduction, etc”.Das also said that in this month, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change had set a target for the State Science, Technology and Environment Department to organize 2,000 different activities under this ‘Mission Life’ program across the state.

The director said that 403 activities have already been done. The Director also discussed in detail about the various work plans of the Department in implementing the ‘Mission Life’ programme.

He said that the Department of Science, Technology and Environment will be responsible for the implementation of this program in the state as the nodal department.
