Debajit Tripura denies political link in family dispute, slams BJP for ‘cheap politics’

Date:

Agartala, 6th April 2026:   Political tensions are rising in the 27 East Muhuripur–Buratali ADC election constituency as former MDC Debajit Tripura has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), urging the party to avoid what he described as “cheap politics.”

Speaking to media personnel here, Debajit Tripura along with representatives of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) clarified that the incident which has been widely circulated on social media, was being wrongly portrayed as a political attack. He clarified that the incident was purely a private family dispute related to financial issues and had no connection with politics.

He alleged that leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including former MLA Sankar Roy and party candidate Abhijit Tripura, had mischaracterised the incident without conducting a proper ground-level verification. He claimed that such statements were intended to defame Tripura Motha Party and gain political mileage ahead of the upcoming ADC elections. He further accused them of spreading misinformation to influence public perception.

Calling for restraint, Debajit Tripura emphasized the need for a peaceful and fair election. He appealed to the public not to be misled by what he described as “false narratives” and urged political opponents to avoid creating unnecessary tension in the state’s political environment.

He also challenged BJP leaders to verify facts before making public statements. He also added that such allegations reflect the opposition’s growing nervousness and a perceived loss of political ground in the region.
