Agartala, 4th April 2025: Kamalasagar assembly constituency’s Debipur Class XII School is currently in turmoil as 28 students, who failed in Class 11, have raised concerns over alleged unfair treatment by school authorities. These students, despite scoring low marks in their exams have been pleading with the administration to promote them to Class 12 promising to improve their academic performance.
Over the past few days, the students approached the headmistress with their appeals but were unsuccessful in swaying her decision. Matters escalated when some students reported inappropriate comments from certain teachers. Allegedly, remarks about their appearance and hygiene were made, including statements such as, “Your face is not good, your hair is not good, you can see dirt in your hands, you will not be able to study.”
This afternoon, the students took their grievances to the common people presenting their case to media personnel in front of the school. According to the students, some peers with lower marks were promoted and they suspect intentional bias against those coming from outside the Debipur area. Additionally, they claimed they were marked absent despite attending classes regularly.
The headmistress, however, denied these allegations, asserting that the results were fair and unbiased. She clarified that out of 128 students of Class XI, 112 appeared for the examination with 84 passing and 28 failing. She stated, “The accusations are baseless. No teacher deliberately fails students nor do we mark present students as absent. Many from distant areas have also passed.”
She further advised the failed students to re-enroll, emphasizing the importance of focused efforts to achieve success. “Only through hard work and good results can they secure their future,” she added. Nevertheless, she maintained that promoting failed students without merit would not be possible.
The students, disheartened by the outcome expressed doubts about continuing their education, with some considering alternative pursuits. They remain hopeful, however, that the headmistress might reconsider her decision.
