Agartala, 1st September 2026 : Sensation prevailed in North Banamalipur area of Agartala after the decomposed bodies of a man and a woman, who were reportedly in a live-in relationship, were recovered from the same room on Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Suman Debbarma (40) and Priya Debbarma (39). According to local sources, the two had been living together in the same house for nearly three years.
The incident came to light after a foul smell was noticed emanating from the house on Tuesday morning. Suman’s sister reportedly became suspicious and, after moving aside the curtain of the room, found the bodies lying inside. She immediately informed the police.
Police personnel reached the spot and recovered the bodies. Preliminary assessment suggests that the two may have died around two days ago. However, the exact time and cause of death have not yet been established.
Police collected necessary samples from the scene and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. An investigation into the incident has been initiated.
According to Suman’s sister, the couple had frequent arguments and disputes during their relationship. Family members also claimed that Priya had been married previously, and that the family had objected to their relationship. They were reportedly advised either to formalise their relationship after completing the legal process related to her previous marriage or to live separately.
However, police have not established any connection between these family issues and the deaths.
Suman was reportedly employed with a private organisation but had been out of work for the past two months. Police have not yet confirmed whether the incident was a case of suicide or whether there was any other cause behind the deaths.
The exact circumstances surrounding the deaths are expected to become clear after the post-mortem report and further investigation.
