Agartala, 30th July 2025: Representatives from the Kadamtala Merchants’ Association and the Tripura Lawyers Association of Justice submitted a joint memorandum to the District Magistrate of North Tripura, urging legal action and elaborate compensation for victims of the 2024 Durga Puja riot in Kadamtala.
Addressing the media personnel following their meeting, the delegation emphasized that the deputation seeks a thorough and impartial investigation into the tragic events, which they claim have left several local traders financially and emotionally devastated. They demanded that all outstanding loans of affected traders be waived and replaced with fresh financial aid under appropriate government schemes, criticizing the current relief amounts as insufficient.
The group expressed concern over the death of trader Ales Sahani Ahmed, alleging discrepancies in the official investigation report and calling for a fresh inquiry. They also pressed for monetary assistance for those injured and adequate compensation for families who lost their homes—arguing that many received far less than deserved.
The delegation stated that the matter has been brought to the attention of the Human Rights Commission, which has since initiated an investigation. They further alleged that earlier appeals made to Dharmanagar authorities were ignored.
Two separate teams formally presented copies of their demands to the District Magistrate, who reportedly assured that the issues raised would be investigated urgently and with due seriousness.
