Agartala, 3rd April 2025: Tipra Motha MDC Dhirendra Debbarma, a leader of the BJP’s alliance partner in Tripura has raised serious concerns about the state of tribal welfare under the current BJP-led government.
Speaking to the media personnel here, Debbarma alleged, “The level of deprivation of the tribals in the hills has increased under the BJP rule compared to the previous Left regime. If this continues, the leadership of Tipra Motha is considering alternative approaches to safeguard tribal interests.”
The remarks come in the wake of widespread media coverage highlighting the poor condition of the road from Rajkandi to Fatikcherra in the Rajkandi ADC Village, Unakoti district. Debbarma, a resident of the area expressed frustration over the lack of development, stating, “Despite repeated appeals to the administration, the road problems remain unresolved. The government seems indifferent to the development of ADC areas.”
He further criticized the BJP for failing to fulfill its promises to the tribal community, lamenting, “The BJP’s promise of tribal development has been forgotten. Instead of addressing the issues, Tipra Motha faces obstacles from its senior partner in the alliance.”
Debbarma also pointed to broader issues plaguing tribal areas, including inadequate access to roads, drinking water, education, and healthcare. “The deprivation faced by tribals today is worse than during the 25 years of Left rule,” he asserted. He highlighted the stalled efforts to revive a hospital in the Rajkandi area as a glaring example of administrative neglect.
In a tone that hinted at growing tensions within the alliance, Debbarma remarked, “Even though Tipra Motha is part of the government, the BJP’s decisions dominate all matters. This is not the partnership we envisioned.”
