Agartala, 16th May 2026: A devastating fire broke out early this morning amid heavy rain in the Champahaor Chaumurni Bazaar area of Khowai subdivision. The blaze engulfed the residence of local resident Uttam Debbarma, reducing the entire house to ashes.
Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have originated from a short circuit. The incident has resulted in damages estimated at nearly ₹6 lakh. Hearing the cries of the family, traders from Champahaor Bazaar and local residents rushed to the spot. While they immediately informed the fire service, they also attempted to douse the flames themselves. However, despite the rain, the raging fire spread rapidly and consumed the entire house within minutes.
Firefighters arrived promptly at the scene, but by the time the engine reached, all household furniture, essential documents, and belongings had already been destroyed. Though the fire was eventually brought under control, the house could not be saved.
This incident has left the affected family in distress, highlighting once again the vulnerability of rural households to sudden electrical hazards.
