Agartala, 21st September 2025 : A massive fire broke out at Peyarcherra Market under the Kurti-Kadamtala assembly constituency in Dharmanagar subdivision late last night completely destroying seven grocery shops and leaving local traders financially devastated.
Local sources informed that the blaze originated suddenly in one of the shops around midnight. Due to the close proximity of the shops, the fire quickly spread to adjacent establishments, engulfing them in flames within moments.
Firefighters from the Premtala Fire Station rushed to the scene upon receiving the alert. However, despite their prompt arrival, the intensity of the fire delayed containment efforts, resulting in the total destruction of all seven shops. Shop owners reported losses amounting to several lakhs of rupees, with their entire stock and lifetime savings reduced to ashes.
This morning, CPM MLA Islam Uddin visited the site and spoke with the affected traders, assuring them of his support. Former Kadamtala Block Chairman Subrata Deb also arrived at the scene to express solidarity.
Local residents have urged the government to take immediate steps to rehabilitate the affected traders and provide necessary assistance to help them rebuild their livelihoods.
