Agartala, 27th January 2026:  Residents living near Howrah Bridge are gripped by fear as they claim their homes are being demolished to make way for embankment construction. Nearly 40 families have approached the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) seeking intervention.

Today, a four-member delegation, led by Uttam Saha, met with SDM Maniklal Das to present their grievances in detail. The residents stated that despite living in the area for many years, they were suddenly served eviction notices, leaving them in a state of uncertainty.

The matter was later scheduled for discussion in a conference at the District Magistrate’s office to ensure proper consideration. The delegation attended the meeting at the appointed time and held extensive discussions with senior officials. After the meeting, they addressed the media, stating that they had demanded proper rehabilitation and alternative arrangements. They also mentioned that the administration has assured them that the matter would be carefully reviewed and appropriate steps taken.

Meanwhile, local residents continue to await immediate administrative action, pressing for a safe and permanent rehabilitation solution.
