Agartala, January 18: A boy named Sagar Shukla Baidya was brutally assaulted by a group of boys over a love affair at the BBI complex stadium in Dharmanagar city on Thursday. The attackers used bamboo sticks and sprinkled salt and pepper on his wounds.
Sagar, who hails from Apanjan Club area in Chandrapur under Dharmanagar sub-division and lives in a rented house in Seram Sarani, Naya Para, was in a relationship with a girl who lived nearby. Sagar had a dispute with a boy named Ratan over the same girl and had beaten him up about two weeks back.
On Thursday, around 11:30 am, Ratan along with Kaushik, Abhi and some others ambushed Sagar in the stadium gallery and thrashed him mercilessly. The onlookers alerted the Dharmanagar police station and claimed that a mobile thief was being caught and punished. The police reached the spot and took Sagar to the North District Hospital at Dharmanagar for treatment.
Sagar is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital and has confessed that the incident was related to the girl. However, the police have denied that he was a thief and have registered a case against the assailants.
Meanwhile, sources informed that a boy named Kaushik Datta has been arrested and police is searching for other accused persons.
