Agartala, 6th April 2026: The by-election for the 56 Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency in Tripura is scheduled for April 9, with polling set from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Six candidates are competing, making this a closely watched contest in the region.
The by-election was necessitated following the passing of MLA and Speaker Biswabandhu Sen. Tripura Chief Electoral Officer Brijesh Pandey stated that the campaigning period will end on April 7 at 5:00 PM, followed by a mandatory 48-hour silence period during which all political activities, including public meetings and rallies, are prohibited.
The constituency has 46,142 registered voters, including 22,384 men, 23,758 women, and 91 service voters (88 men and 3 women). Voting will take place across 55 polling stations spread over 42 locations—32 in urban and 23 in rural areas. Special arrangements include 11 women-managed stations, 2 PwD-managed stations, 2 youth-managed stations, and 11 model polling stations.
All polling stations are equipped with drinking water, proper lighting, ramps for persons with disabilities, toilets, and shaded areas for voters. To ensure a smooth and transparent election, 75 micro observers have been deployed, along with six naka points, 24 static surveillance teams, 12 flying squads, and video surveillance teams. Polling staff will be mobilized from Dharmanagar Government Girls’ School to polling and counting centers, with strong rooms secured under strict supervision. A dry day will be observed from April 7 to April 9, and canvassing within 100 meters of polling stations is prohibited, though candidates may set up booths beyond this limit with minimal arrangements. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
