Agartala, 29th March 2026: As the 56-Dharmanagar assembly by-election draws near, political activity in the region is intensifying. Congress leader and sitting legislator Sudip Roy Burman has been actively campaigning for the party’s candidate, Chayan Bhattacharya, marking his third consecutive day on the ground.
On Sunday, the focus of the campaign was Booth No. 48 in the Durgapur area, where Congress workers and supporters displayed notable enthusiasm from early morning. Accompanied by party volunteers, Sudip Roy Burman visited homes door-to-door, engaging directly with residents and distributing leaflets that outlined Congress’s promises. During these interactions, he also criticized the policies of the current government, calling them “anti-people.”
Highlighting the importance of electing Chayan Bhattacharya, Burman stressed that the move would support overall development in Dharmanagar, enhance healthcare services, and tackle unemployment issues. He also took time to listen to the grievances of residents, assuring them that Congress remains committed to standing by the people, as it has historically.
Congress’s campaign leaflet showcased several key promises, including upgrading civic amenities, protecting and empowering women, enhancing district hospital infrastructure and ICU facilities, and ensuring access to purified drinking water for every household.
Political analysts note that the warm reception from the Durgapur electorate on the campaign’s third day has bolstered Congress’s confidence. With the by-election approaching, attention now turns to the voters of Dharmanagar to decide the outcome.
