Agartala, 17th May 2024: In a tribute to the legendary poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore, Haflong CherraTE Higher Secondary School hosted a commemorative function on his 124th birth anniversary. The event was graced by the presence of former MLA Malina Debnath who inaugurated the ceremony on Friday.
The school’s principal Babul Chandra Das presided over the function by the unveiling of Tagore’s statue- a first for the North District. “The dedication of our teacher, Dilip Kumar Das, was instrumental in the installation of Rabindranath’s statue, ensuring that the legacy of our great poet’s birthday and Rabindra Jayanti is celebrated with due reverence,” said Principal Das.
Students from the school participated in groups, contributing to the event’s success. The public observed that the unveiling of Rabindranath’s statue outside the district office was a momentous occasion, never before witnessed in the district.
In her address, former MLA Malina Debnath encouraged students to follow in Rabindranath Tagore’s footsteps, describing him as “a great poet, literary dramatist, and guide to human work.” She highlighted that “emulating Rabindranath’s ideals can liberate one from social prejudices and disorders.”
Reflecting on the event’s significance, school teacher Dilip Kumar Das remarked, “It’s a proud moment for us to celebrate Rabindra Jayanti on May 16, honoring a figure who has shaped our cultural and literary heritage.”
