Agartala, 11th May 2024 : In a significant crackdown on illicit liquor trafficking, the Dharmanagar police apprehended two individuals suspected of smuggling alcohol into Mizoram. The operation led to the seizure of two vehicles, carrying liquor estimated to be worth lakhs of rupees.
Early reports suggest that the vehicles, bearing registration numbers MZ 01Y 5324 and MZ 069391, were initially en route to Mizoram. However, upon altering their course towards Bagbassa, they were intercepted by vigilant officers at Rajbari under Dharmanagar police station.
The drivers were identified as Larlukuma Sailo and Lalmukliana, were allegedly transporting the contraband, sourced from a government outlet in Dharmanagar to Mizoram. Following the seizure, both vehicles and drivers were detained at the Dharmanagar police station.
Subsequently, an individual named Abhirup Sharma approached the authorities, claiming association with the seized assets. Leveraging his legal acumen and tax expertise, Sharma negotiated the release of the vehicles, while the police retained the confiscated liquor.
This incident has highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing the cross-border movement of illegal goods. The Dharmanagar police’s swift action has thwarted a significant attempt at liquor smuggling, underscoring their commitment to upholding the law.
