Agartala, 21st June 2026: The 11th Annual General Meeting of the Dharmanagar Railway Division Demand and Development Committee was held on Sunday at the TGTA Building near the Old Motor Stand in Dharmanagar, North Tripura. The meeting focused on the organization’s activities during the past year, financial matters, future programmes, and the ongoing movement demanding the establishment of a railway division in Dharmanagar.
The annual report was presented by Committee Secretary Himanshu Pal, who highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by the organization to strengthen the demand. At the beginning of the meeting, floral tributes were paid in memory of the organization’s founder president, late S.N. Bhattacharya. The contributions of several individuals associated with social and political fields were also acknowledged.
During the meeting, members discussed the progress of the long-running movement for a railway division in Dharmanagar. The committee informed that several programmes, including submission of memoranda, public meetings, street-corner campaigns, distribution of leaflets, and social media outreach, have been conducted to generate public support for the demand.
The organization reiterated that Dharmanagar has the necessary geographical and administrative advantages to become a railway division under the Northeast railway network. According to the committee, Dharmanagar meets several important criteria considered by the Ministry of Railways, including availability of land, connectivity, ease of acquisition, strategic location, and environmental suitability.
The committee claimed that around 141 acres of land is available for the proposed railway division and stated that there would be no major hurdles regarding land requirements. It was also mentioned that, based on discussions with senior railway officials of Northeast Frontier Railway, there is little possibility of a new railway division being established in Silchar or Badarpur, making Dharmanagar a more practical option.
The meeting also reviewed organizational challenges and stressed the need to expand membership across different subdivisions and rural areas. Special emphasis was placed on involving more young people and increasing public participation in the movement.
Members decided to intensify the campaign through wider public awareness programmes, outreach activities, and stronger mass movements in the coming days.
Committee President K. Bhattacharya, office bearers, and members of the organization were present at the meeting.
