Agartala, 7th May 2026: Political tension continues to escalate in Dharmanagar following the untimely death of Rahul Kishore Roy, Mandal President of the 56-Dharmanagar Yuva Morcha and Councilor of Ward No. 5 under the Dharmanagar Municipal Council. Four days after the tragic incident, newly elected MLA Jahar Chakraborty visited the residence of the deceased leader today to offer condolences to the bereaved family.
The visit, however, took a dramatic turn when Rahul Roy’s wife, Ananya Bhattacharya, made several explosive allegations in the presence of the MLA and senior BJP leaders, triggering fresh debate within political circles.
Jahar Chakraborty was accompanied by BJP North District President Kajal Das, Dharmanagar Municipal Council Chairperson Mitali Rani Das Sen, Councilor Nabanita Acharya, BJP leader Biswajit Deb, and other party functionaries. The delegation met the grieving family members and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed leader’s soul.
During the interaction, Ananya Bhattacharya openly expressed her anguish and resentment, alleging that her husband had become a victim of internal factionalism within the BJP. In an emotionally charged statement before the visiting leaders, she claimed that the party itself was responsible for Rahul Roy’s death. She further stated that despite their family’s long-standing loyalty and support to the BJP, they now found themselves abandoned during their darkest hour.
Referring to the days leading up to Rahul Roy’s death, Ananya alleged that after Jahar Chakraborty secured the party ticket, her husband had repeatedly visited the MLA’s residence but was allegedly denied proper respect and attention. She also claimed that Rahul Roy had faced humiliation, threats and mental harassment from certain quarters within the party, ultimately pushing him toward the extreme step.
Significantly, Barnali Goswami, the wife of MLA Jahar Chakraborty was absent during today’s visit. Her absence has become a major talking point across Dharmanagar, especially after Ananya Bhattacharya earlier accused both Jahar Chakraborty and Barnali Goswami of being responsible for her husband’s death. She had also warned that if she herself were ever driven to take any suicidal step, the two individuals should be held accountable.
Meanwhile, Jahar Chakraborty conveyed his deepest condolences to the family and assured them that nobody involved in the incident would be spared. He stated that strict action would be taken against the actual culprits after a proper investigation.
Rahul Kishore Roy’s death had sent shockwaves across Dharmanagar after he was allegedly found hanging inside the bathroom of his residence using a party uttariya (scarf). The incident sparked widespread outrage and discussion, with family members raising serious allegations against certain individuals linked to the party.
