Sonaimuri Panchayat members file no-confidence motion against Pradhan and Upa-Pradhan

Date:

Agartala, 7th May 2026:   Tensions have escalated in Sonaimuri Gram Panchayat under Kumarghat RD Block, where seven members have formally submitted a no-confidence motion against the ruling party’s Pradhan and Upa-Pradhan. Allegations of arbitrary decision-making, favoritism, and irregularities in development projects have triggered widespread discontent within the Panchayat.

Today, the motion was officially lodged at the Unakoti District Panchayat office. The charges are directed at current Pradhan Meera Malakar and Pradhan Arati Rani Debnath. Members claim the duo consistently ignored collective discussions and imposed unilateral decisions, undermining transparency and democratic functioning.

“We were repeatedly sidelined. Projects were sanctioned without informing members, and public interest was disregarded. Despite raising concerns multiple times, our voices were ignored. Bringing this motion was our last resort,” the members stated.

Local residents have also accused the Panchayat leadership of nepotism and lack of accountability in development works. The fact that ruling party members themselves have now taken a stand has added a new dimension to the controversy, sparking political ripples across the region.

With political heat rising in Sonaimuri, all eyes are on the administrative inquiry that will determine the fate of the Pradhan and Upa-Pradhan.
