Dilapidated road: Locals block NH‑8 at Nabincharra

Date:

Agartala 20th July 2026:   Traffic came to a standstill on the Assam–Agartala National Highway (NH-8) at Nabincharra under Pecharthal police station on Monday, as angry locals staged a road blockade demanding immediate repair of the severely damaged stretch.

Residents, frustrated by the highway’s dilapidated condition and mud-filled potholes, gathered in large numbers to protest. The blockade led to a massive traffic jam, with buses, auto-rickshaws, private cars, and goods-laden vehicles stranded on both sides of the road. Passengers and daily commuters faced extreme hardship as vehicles remained stuck for hours.

According to local sources, the Nabincharra section of NH-8 has long been in a deplorable state. Even light rainfall renders the road unusable, with vehicles frequently getting trapped in mud and accidents occurring regularly. Despite repeated appeals to the authorities, no permanent solution has been implemented, prompting residents to resort to direct action.

The protesters demanded that the damaged portion of the highway be repaired without delay. They declared that the agitation would continue until officials arrived on-site and assured them of immediate measures.

After nearly two to three hours of disruption, the blockade was lifted when local administration representatives reached the spot and promised swift action to restore the road.
