Agartala, 8th October 2025 : What was once a vital link across the Gomati River in the Melaghar-Tel Kajla area has now become a potential death trap. The suspension bridge, which connects communities on either side of the river, is in a dangerously deteriorated state, with large sections broken or missing. Despite its condition, pedestrians and motorcyclists continue to use the bridge daily, risking their lives with every crossing.
Local residents have raised repeated concerns about the bridge’s structural integrity, citing frequent accidents and warning that a major tragedy could occur at any moment. Yet, authorities appear to have taken no action. The bridge has remained in this hazardous state for an extended period, with no signs of repair or closure from the responsible department.
Frustration is mounting among locals, many of whom accuse officials of waiting for a fatal incident before taking action. “It feels like they’re sitting in air-conditioned offices, waiting for someone to die,” one resident remarked bitterly.
Adding to the outrage is the belief that financial resources are not the issue. Locals claim that government coffers are well-funded, with the central government reportedly allocating more than sufficient funds for state development. “If money isn’t the problem, then where is it going?” asked another concerned citizen.
The community is now demanding immediate intervention from the government and relevant authorities to either repair or replace the bridge before it claims lives. The call is clear: restore safety before tragedy strikes.
