Agartala, 12th August 2025: A female doctor at Sonamura Community Health Centre fell ill last night after working extended hours to treat patients, highlighting the dire shortage of medical staff at the facility. Despite her deteriorating condition, she resumed duty shortly after receiving saline treatment.
The hospital has been operating with only two female doctors for the past three days, forcing them to provide round-the-clock care. The relentless workload took a toll on one of the doctors, who collapsed due to exhaustion but returned to work soon after a brief recovery.
The situation has sparked concern among medical staff, who accuse higher authorities of negligence. According to sources, Sonamura Sub-Divisional Medical Officer Dr. Rajesh Das has not responded to calls from hospital staff or local representatives during this crisis.
Frustration is mounting among the on-duty doctors, who argue that it is impossible to run an entire hospital with just two physicians. They say the shortage is compromising the quality of care provided to the public and have urged the Health Department to take immediate action.
