Agartala, 1st January 2023: A critical situation unfolded at IGM Hospital today when a doctor at the emergency department allegedly refused to treat a critical patient, leading to a heated argument with the patient’s family and necessitating police intervention.
Bandana Das, a resident of Jayanagar area, was admitted to IGM Hospital earlier today with complaints of chest pain. The emergency department doctors recommended an Electrocardiogram (ECG) for further diagnosis. However, a doctor from the medicine department contradicted the suggestion, asserting that an ECG was unnecessary.
According to the patient’s family members, the doctor from the medicine department not only opposed the ECG but also informed them that there was no staff available to conduct the test. This declaration sparked a confrontation between the medical staff and the distressed family.
The situation escalated, creating tension within the hospital premises. Concerned about the growing unrest, hospital authorities called upon the police to intervene and manage the situation.
A police official present at the scene reported that the argument between the doctor and the patient’s family had reached a point where law enforcement became necessary to restore order. The official confirmed that Bandana Das’s condition was critical, and delays in treatment due to the disagreement heightened the anxiety of the family and onlookers.
IGM Hospital administration has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
