Agartala, 28th August 2024: In an unprecedented show of dedication, doctors and health workers across the state are working tirelessly to safeguard the health of flood victims. According to a press release from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, medical professionals have made 1,236 visits to relief camps so far, ensuring that those affected by the floods receive critical medical care.
Over the past three days alone, the state has organized 1,799 health camps, offering medical services to 42,800 individuals. Among those treated, 19,169 were men, 14,895 were women, and 8,736 were children. The press release highlighted the unwavering commitment of health workers who are navigating dangerous conditions to reach those in need. “Our teams are crossing raging rivers by boat and wading through flooded areas on foot to deliver essential healthcare services,” the statement read.
The flood has forced thousands of people to seek refuge in relief camps, where the medical teams have been on the front lines, providing necessary treatments and raising awareness about waterborne and insect-borne diseases. In a concerted effort to prevent outbreaks, the health department has conducted thorough medical examinations for 35,993 individuals from 23,552 families. These efforts include 17,141 men, 13,398 women, and 5,454 children.
To strengthen health protection measures, the department has distributed a vast quantity of medical supplies across flood-affected areas. These include 2,000 bags of bleaching powder, 200,000 ORS packets, 2 million halogen tablets, 1 million zinc tablets, and ample stocks of fever medication, skin lotions, and ointments.
The press release underscores the gravity of the situation and the relentless efforts of the health department to protect the lives of those impacted by the floods. “Our teams are walking through heavy rains and impassable roads to ensure no one is left behind,” the department stated, emphasizing their commitment to the well-being of the flood victims.
