Dr Manik Saha inaugurates Ratha Yatra at Melaghar; Urges balance and caution at Melaghar

Agartala, 6th July 2024:  The traditional Rath Yatra of Melaghar renowned throughout Tripura and the entire country marked its 60th celebration with a grand commencement on Saturday. The Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha officially inaugurated the nine-day festival at the Jagannath Bari premises in Melaghar.

In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Dr Saha emphasized the importance of remembering the rich history of Jagannath Bari in Melaghar. “It is crucial for the new generation to remember and honor our heritage,” he stated. Reflecting on the unfortunate incident in Kumarghat last year, he urged vigilance to ensure the festival remains joyous. “We must ensure that no shadow of sorrow clouds our celebrations,” he added.

Highlighting the deep cultural roots of the Rath Yatra, Saha remarked, “This festival has been mentioned in our ancient texts and is a testament to our enduring traditions.” He extended his best wishes to the people of the state, encouraging them to partake in the festivities with a spirit of joy and caution. “May everyone enjoy the Rath Yatra with a balanced and alert eye,” he said.

The inauguration ceremony saw the attendance of several dignitaries, including MLAs Kishore Barman and Bindu Debnath, Zilla Parishad President Supriya Das Datta and District Magistrate Nagesh Kumar.

Organized by the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs and Melaghar Municipal Council, the fair promises a vibrant array of cultural programs performed by renowned artists each evening. Visitors can explore offerings from over 400 stalls, making it a bustling hub of activity and celebration.
