Agartala, 6th July 2024: Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury highlighted the severe repercussions of widespread deforestation on the global environment. “The temperature of the world is gradually increasing, leading to weather anomalies and subsequent disasters in various regions,” he stated, emphasizing the urgency of large-scale tree planting as the only viable solution to combat these issues.
In a passionate address at the Forest Festival organized by the Tripura Horticulture Corporation Limited (THCL) at MB Tilla area here, Chowdhury stated the necessity of abundant tree planting to preserve the environment for future generations. “To protect not only ourselves but also the next generation, it is essential to keep the entire society beautiful through extensive afforestation. Human civilization will be under threat if trees are not planted properly,” he warned.
In response to the calls from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the state’s Chief Minister, Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, Tripura is making significant strides in tree planting. “Our tiny state is moving towards being at the forefront of the country in tree planting, much like we lead in voluntary blood donation,” Chowdhury remarked proudly. He also stressed the importance of planting eco-friendly trees like neem, adding, “We cannot build a healthy society if we cannot keep the environment good. I urge everyone to plant trees throughout the year, not just at a particular time.”
The event saw contributions from other notable figures, including MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, who echoed the minister’s sentiments on the importance of year-round tree planting and the necessity of caring for these plants. “It is very important to take care of these plants,” she stated.
