Agartala, 21st September 2026 : With Durga Puja approaching, the Tripura government has stepped up preparations to ensure the uninterrupted availability of essential commodities and prevent artificial price rises during the festive season.
The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department recently held a high-level review meeting to assess the supply and distribution mechanism and identify possible challenges that could affect the availability of essential goods during the Puja period.
Director of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Sumit Lodh said the meeting was chaired by the department’s Principal Secretary and attended by representatives of LPG distributors, petroleum companies including IOCL and BPCL, merchant and business associations, ration shop dealers and other stakeholders involved in the supply chain.
District Magistrates, Superintendents of Police and public representatives also participated in the discussions, reflecting the government’s focus on coordination between the administration, law-enforcement agencies and the business community.
According to Lodh, ensuring adequate stocks of essential commodities at reasonable prices will remain a key priority during Durga Puja, when demand for several items generally rises.
The department also discussed measures to check hoarding, black marketing and overcharging. Lodh said strict action would be taken against those found violating the prescribed norms or attempting to exploit the increased festive demand.
Special attention was also given to transportation and logistics. The meeting reviewed the movement of supply vehicles, routes to be followed and security arrangements needed to ensure the smooth transportation of essential commodities across the state.
Lodh said coordinated efforts by government departments, district administrations, police, distributors, traders and other stakeholders would be crucial to maintaining a steady supply chain throughout the festive season.
The department is expected to closely monitor the situation during the Puja period to ensure that consumers do not face shortages or undue price increases.
