Agartala, 21st September 2026 : Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) has received approval to increase its MBBS intake by 100 seats, taking the total number of seats from 150 to 250 from the 2026-27 academic session.
The expansion marks a significant development for medical education in Tripura and will provide more opportunities for students seeking to pursue MBBS studies within the state.
Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha welcomed the decision, saying the increased intake would open up greater opportunities for the younger generation and further strengthen Tripura’s medical education and healthcare infrastructure.
The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for their continued support towards the development of medical education and healthcare infrastructure in Tripura.
With the revised intake, AGMC will now have a 250-seat MBBS capacity, placing it among several prominent medical institutions across the country that have been approved for the same intake. These include Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi, B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, SMS Medical College in Jaipur, Madras Medical College in Chennai and King George’s Medical University in Lucknow, among others.
The increase in seats is expected to benefit aspiring medical students from Tripura and neighbouring areas while also contributing to the availability of more trained medical professionals in the state.
The Chief Minister said strengthening medical education today would lay the foundation for a healthier and more prosperous Tripura in the years ahead.
