Agartala, 2nd April 2026: Nearly four years after its launch, the ambitious Atal Jal Jeevan Mission (Har Ghar Jal) project has failed to deliver drinking water to households in Nonachhara ADC Village under Mungiakami Block. Despite crores of rupees being spent on infrastructure, residents allege that not a single drop has reached their taps.
According to local sources, a water treatment plant was set up under the centrally funded scheme, and pipelines were laid to connect every home. However, villagers complain that the pipelines remain dry, forcing them to rely on distant wells, hill streams, and other unsafe sources for daily drinking water. This has not only caused severe hardship but also raised health concerns.
Residents say the work initially progressed quickly but later came to a halt. “Pipelines were installed but never made functional,” one villager remarked, highlighting the frustration of the community.
Recently, Sunil Debbarma, BAC Chairman of Mungiakami Block and IPFT leader, visited the area. Speaking to the media, he said:
“It is alarming that such an important welfare project remains non-functional for years. Spending crores without benefiting the people clearly reflects administrative failure.”
Debbarma also pointed out that water supply is not the only issue. Poor road conditions, irregular electricity, and inadequate healthcare facilities have left villagers struggling with multiple problems. He urged immediate intervention from the concerned departments to operationalize the water project and address other basic needs.
Meanwhile, residents have demanded swift action from the administration. “Waiting for years without results is deeply disappointing,” they said, stressing that the Har Ghar Jal mission must live up to its promise of delivering water to every household.
