Agartala, 2nd April 2026: The Government of Tripura has launched a landmark digital health initiative to improve the accessibility, transparency, and efficiency of healthcare services across the state. The Integrated Health Management Information System (IHMIS) is now being implemented in all district and subdivision hospitals, rural hospitals, and primary health centers.

Under this system, patients can obtain outpatient tickets quickly by scanning a QR code and access all their health information digitally. The program aims to bring modern, data-driven healthcare services to every citizen, including those in remote areas.

On March 2, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Health Director Dr. Debashree Debbarma, State Mission Director ABDM Dr. G. Sharath Naik, Head of Office of Health Authority Dr. Rajesh Anil Acharya, Deputy Director Dr. Alok Dewan, and representatives from Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) met to ensure smooth implementation of IHIMS. The Health Secretary directed officials to provide all necessary support and emphasized the active involvement of state doctors and healthcare staff in the initiative.

Earlier, on March 30, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with BECIL to operationalize IHIMS. The MoU was signed by Health Director Dr. Debashree Debbarma, State Mission Director ABDM Dr. G. Sharath Naik, and BECIL representative Usha Mangalgi.

The IHIMS project aims to fully digitize healthcare services in Tripura. Its key features include digital health records, enabling citizens’ medical histories to be accessed by doctors at any government hospital. The system is integrated with the central government’s Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), automatically generating an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID for every citizen.

The initiative also introduces paperless services, including online registration, to minimize queues in outpatient and emergency departments. The ABHA system is currently functional in state and subdivision hospitals and several primary health centers, and it will soon cover all primary health facilities.

Additional services include e-prescriptions and teleconsultation, allowing residents in distant areas to consult specialists at Agartala GB Pant Hospital or IGMC Hospital. Through IHIMS, telemedicine services will be expanded to ensure expert healthcare reaches every citizen in Tripura.
