Agartala, 2nd April 2026: . The Tripura High Court’s Division Bench has directed the state government to submit a detailed report within three months outlining steps taken to prevent illegal infiltration, in line with guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The order came in response to a writ petition filed by Tipra Motha legislator Ranjit Debbarma along with two others, alleging that despite clear instructions from the Centre, the state had failed to implement effective measures to curb infiltration.
The court has asked the government to provide a comprehensive account of initiatives undertaken for identification, detention, and legal action against infiltrators, as mandated by the ministry.
Speaking to reporters, MLA Ranjit Debbarma stressed that preventing infiltration is crucial for national security. He noted that while several states have launched administrative drives to identify and deport infiltrators, Tripura has yet to implement such measures effectively. “Repeated appeals yielded no satisfactory outcome, leaving us with no option but to approach the court,” he said.
The petitioners’ counsel argued that the state government has not fully enforced the Home Ministry’s directives. Although multiple committees were reportedly formed to address the issue, their findings have not been made public. As a result, infiltration through border areas continues, raising concerns over national security and sovereignty.
