Driver arrested with marijuana during police check at Narayanpur border road

Agartala, 22nd January 2025:   The Airport police station staff led by OC Abhijit Mandal arrested a driver during a routine vehicle check on the Narayanpur Border Road in the peripheries of Agartala city. The incident took place on Tuesday when officers recovered 16 kg of dried marijuana from an auto with registration number TR01 E 2024. The seized marijuana has an estimated market value of Rs 1 lakh.

The driver has been identified as Kanu Sarkar, was immediately taken into custody, and the auto-rickshaw was seized. A case has been filed against Sarkar under specific sections of the NDPS Act. He was presented in court on Wednesday, with the police applying for a two-day remand.

Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abhijit Mandal provided details of the operation while speaking to the media. “This successful operation is a testament to our commitment to curbing drug trafficking in the region,” OC Mandal stated.
