DYFI issues 24-hour ultimatum for arrest in Madhupur child rape case

Date:

Agartala, 29th April 2026:  The Leftist youth organization, Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), has demanded immediate arrest of Biswajit Debbarma, accused of raping an eight-year-old girl in South Madhupur. Today around 4:00 PM, leaders of the DYFI Madhupur and Kamalasagar Regional Committees submitted a memorandum to Ujjal Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge of Madhupur Police Station, setting a 24-hour deadline for police action.

Present during the deputation were Hirannoy Narayan Debnath (Divisional Secretary, DYFI Bishalgarh), Uttam Dutta (Regional Secretary, Kamalasagar), Rajesh Dutta (President), and other leaders.

Reportedly, Biswajit Debbarma lured the minor schoolgirl from her home into a dense forest, where he allegedly raped her. When the child screamed, he burned her with a lit cigarette on multiple parts of her body. The accused then attempted to kill her near a sluice gate in the Madhupur Bonkumari area. Fortunately, passersby spotted the girl and rescued her. A case was subsequently registered at Madhupur Police Station.

Speaking to the press, Hirannoy Narayan Debnath condemned the crime as “extremely reprehensible,” calling it a stark example of lawlessness under BJP rule in Tripura. He alleged that incidents of sexual violence against minors and schoolgirls are rising across the state, adding, “In every BJP-ruled state, mothers and sisters are no longer safe today.”

Debnath warned that if the accused is not arrested within 24 hours, DYFI will launch a massive protest movement.
