DYFI protests at Dharmanagar, demands withdrawal of E20 fuel policy

Date:

Agartala, 20th  August 2026 : The Dharmanagar Sub-divisional Committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a protest on Thursday demanding the withdrawal of the Centre’s E20 fuel policy.

The demonstration was held in front of Sarala Petrol Pump, where DYFI members and activists raised concerns over the use of petrol blended with 20 per cent ethanol. The organisation also distributed leaflets among the public explaining its objections to the policy.

DYFI alleged that the E20 initiative was introduced without adequate scientific studies, transparent technical assessments and sufficient consideration of public opinion. The organisation claimed that the policy could create difficulties for vehicle owners, the transport sector, youth and the general public.

The protesters particularly highlighted concerns regarding older vehicles and those not designed for E20 fuel. According to DYFI, vehicle owners could face issues related to engine performance, fuel efficiency, component durability and increased maintenance expenses. The organisation said such problems could affect young people who depend on vehicles for employment, education and daily livelihood activities.

DYFI demanded that the government suspend or withdraw the E20 fuel policy and take steps to safeguard public interests. The organisation announced that awareness campaigns would be conducted among young people across Tripura and warned of a larger movement if public concerns continue to be ignored.

DYFI Dharmanagar Sub-divisional Secretary Arjun Nath, committee members Bidyut Deb, Ranjit Nath and Abdul Sajid, and CPI(M) State Secretariat member Amitabh Datta were present during the protest.

The Tripura State Committee of DYFI has also appealed to democratic and progressive organisations and conscious citizens to mobilise public opinion against what it described as a policy detrimental to public interests.
