East Agartala Police arrest eight persons comprising of smugglers, drug addict, thieves

Agartala, 14th August 2024 : In a significant operation, the East Agartala police station has arrested eight individuals, including four ganja smugglers, one drug addict, and two thieves, within the last 24 hours. The arrests were announced by the sub-divisional police officer during a press briefing at the police station on Wednesday afternoon.

“Five ganja peddlers were arrested at Chandrapur ISBT in the capital on Wednesday morning,” the officer stated. Among the arrested are Pranajit Kumar, Chandeni Devi, Munna Kumar, and Sita Devi, all hailing from Bihar. “They were found roaming the ISBT with ganja bullets and were promptly taken into custody,” he added. The officer also mentioned that a local individual is suspected to be involved, and further details are expected to emerge following the police inquiry.

In a separate operation, the East Agartala police busted a gang of thieves, seizing a bike and a TomTom. “During the remand, we identified two more suspects, Rahul Rishi Das from Ahaliya area and Jhulan Mia from Kabar Khola area,” the officer revealed. Both were subsequently arrested, and another TomTom was confiscated.

Additionally, the police nabbed a drug addict named Swapan Mia from Jagaharimura area. Despite these arrests, the officer acknowledged ongoing illegal activities and criminal incidents in the city. “We are investigating these cases thoroughly, but there is a need to tighten security at Naka points in Agartala city,” he emphasized.

The police continue their efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in theft and drug dealing, aiming to bring the entire gang to justice.
