Agartala, 19th February 2026:  In preparation for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has instructed the Chief Electoral Officers of 22 states and Union Territories, including Tripura, to complete all preliminary arrangements. The revision exercise is expected to commence in April 2026.

The directive, issued on 19 February 2026 by ECI Secretary Pawan Diwan, emphasizes the need to accelerate pre-revision activities. These include finalizing logistical plans, training Booth Level Officers (BLOs), collecting necessary documentation, and raising voter awareness at the local level.

Tripura, along with its northeastern neighbors Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim, has been specifically asked to complete these preparatory tasks “at the earliest.”

The SIR process is designed to update the electoral rolls by removing ineligible entries and ensuring that only eligible voters remain registered. While the exercise has already concluded in Bihar and is ongoing in several other regions, the ECI expects that once Tripura and the remaining states finish their preparations, the nationwide revision will begin simultaneously.
