ECI orders inquiry into Jirania’s political violence

Agartala, January 19, 2023: The Election Commission of India has ordered an inquiry into the incident of ‘Political Violence in Jirania’ reported on Wednesday and other 54 incidents of violence allegedly happened in recent past against the leaders and workers of Indian National Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Tripura.

The Election Commission of India has asked Chief Electoral Officer, Tripura Kiran Gitte to obtain report from DGP, Tripura through Chief Secretary, Tripura and submit report by 3 pm on Friday next.

It is worthy to mention here that the multiple clashes has been reported between Congress and BJP activists followed by a motorcycle rally of the Congress party. It is alleged that when the motorcycle rally was passing through the Majlishpur area, it came under attack at Sachindralal colony area as BJP sheltered miscreants started throwing stones and brickbats on the Congress motorcycle rally. Thereafter, the rally was stopped at Mohanpur and Ranirbazar areas. More than 20 party workers were injured and 15 were hospitalized.

CEO Gitte also informed that three FIRs were filed with police station and eight persons have been arrested. Not only this, 18 persons have been identified and sections of CrPc were registered.
