Agartala, October 02: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha lauded the initiative of 21 Sector Assam Rifles for Project DEEPAK and emphasized the need to focus on quality education along with employment generation.
Dr. Saha attended the signing of the MoU for Project DEEPAK by Assam Rifles in collaboration with Axis Bank & NIEDO at the 21 Sector Assam Rifles headquarters in Agartala today.
He said that the project aims to support underprivileged but meritorious students of Tripura in preparing for various competitive entrance examinations.
“On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, this initiative is undoubtedly a major step. Education is the main indicator of the progress of a nation as well as a state. PM Modi has been making continuous efforts to provide quality education to the most marginalized areas of the country. Project DEEPAK is being formulated based on the concept of the Super-30 project. The main objective of this project is to provide special coaching to economically backward but meritorious students up to the 12th standard so that they can gain admission to technical, medical, and other colleges,” said Dr. Saha.
He further explained that the scheme provides fully residential facilities with free education and coaching.
“I am very glad that Assam Rifles is following PM Modi’s lead when he emphasized that the development of the country is not possible without the Northeast. Headquarters of the 21st sector of Assam Rifles, situated in Teliamura, provides free coaching and accommodation to 30 students to impart quality education. Students will be selected through an exam in October 2023, and the meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds will be chosen for this scheme,” said the Chief Minister.
He also informed that the 21st sector Assam Rifles will provide accommodation in Teliamura under Khowai district.
“I must say this is truly an innovative idea, and others should follow this endeavor. Axis Bank & NIEDO will be responsible for this project. With the development of the country in mind, the Government of India has decided to make a landmark change in the education policy of the country by formulating the National Education Policy. It was formulated with the aim of improving the quality of education, innovation, and research. Emphasis should be placed on quality education along with employment generation,” he added.
