Agartala, 13th November 2025: Tripura’s Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman today emphasized the importance of cultivating a spirit of social service among students from an early age, alongside academic pursuits.
Speaking at the inaugural session of a blood donation camp held at Sonamura PM Shri Nabdwipchandra Institution, as part of a seven-day special National Service Scheme (NSS) camp, Barman urged students to actively prepare themselves to serve society and the nation.
“The National Service Scheme is not just a program—it’s a mindset. Students must not merely consider joining NSS or NCC at the school level; they must internalize its goals and prepare themselves to fulfill them,” Barman said, addressing a gathering of students and faculty.
Reflecting on past experiences, the minister expressed regret over instances where students, despite participating in day-long awareness activities under NSS, engaged in substance abuse and unruly dancing at night. “Such behavior is unacceptable during student life,” he remarked.
Barman also took aim at the former left-leaning student organization SFI, criticizing its ideological approach. He alleged that SFI failed to instill pride in India’s heritage among students and instead promoted foreign ideals, focusing on figures like Lenin and Stalin while downplaying India’s own legacy.
The minister’s remarks come amid renewed efforts to strengthen youth engagement in civic responsibility and national development through structured programs like NSS and NCC.
