Agartala, 24th July 2024:   Rafiq Ranjan Goswami, a senior educationist and former vice-president of the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) breathed his last on Tuesday night. The news of his passing has left the community in mourning.

Goswami, born on October 1, 1942, was a respected teacher at Deenath Narayani Vidyamandir and an instructor in the National Cadet Corps (NCC). His dedication to education and shaping young minds earned him admiration from students who went on to make significant contributions to both the state and the nation.

His political journey aligned with the ideals of Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, and he played a pivotal role in establishing the BJP in undivided North Tripura, which included Dhalai District, Unakoti District, and the present North Tripura District. Goswami was elected twice and served as the President of the BJP in this region. Additionally, he held the position of vice-president in the state BJP.

Goswami contested elections from the Dharmanagar assembly seat three times as a BJP candidate, securing the highest number of votes in the state at that time (5,800). His commitment to the party’s growth was unwavering, even during the period when the BJP did not officially exist in Tripura.

Leaders from various levels of the district and mandal, including Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen and North District President Kajal Das expressed their grief and paid tribute to Goswami. His legacy extends beyond politics; he was a good-hearted human being and a valuable educationist who positively impacted society.

Goswami is survived by his elder daughter, her husband, his younger daughter, her husband, and grandchildren. His younger daughter, Barnali Goswami served as the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission for an extended period. Meanwhile, Jahar Chakraborty, the younger daughter’s husband, currently holds the position of vice-president in the North District BJP.

The loss of this senior leader has deeply affected the Bharatiya Janata Party, and students across the state have come together to pay their respects to the departed soul.
