Agartala, 24th August 2026 :The body of eight-year-old Azmir Islam, who went missing after drowning in a river, was recovered on Monday afternoon following several hours of search operations. Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with NDRF teams, recovered the child’s body from the river near Nabinagar Mukhtar Hossain Para (Bazarpara).
According to local sources, Azmir had gone to the riverbank with his elder brother on Sunday afternoon. While playing near the river, he accidentally fell into the water and was swept away. After noticing the incident, local residents immediately informed the Fire and Emergency Services and the NDRF.
Rescue teams reached the spot and launched a search operation. Despite several hours of searching on Sunday, the child could not be located. The operation resumed on Monday, and the rescuers eventually recovered Azmir’s body from the river around noon.
Meanwhile, some local residents expressed anger over what they alleged was a delay and lack of urgency in the rescue operation. They claimed that the expected level of promptness was not seen after the teams reached the spot. Allegations were also raised that some fire personnel were recording videos on mobile phones during the operation.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of grief over the area. Local residents have also called for faster and more effective rescue operations to prevent loss of life in similar incidents in the future.
