Elderly Man in Tripura Alleges Denial of Old-Age Pension Despite Being Eligible

Date:

Agartala, 17th June 2026:  A 70-year-old resident of New Bishram Para in Gandachhara, Tripura, Milon Joy Reang, has alleged that he has been repeatedly denied old-age pension benefits despite fulfilling the eligibility criteria.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Reang said he has submitted the required documents multiple times to the concerned department in hopes of receiving the pension. However, he claims that no benefits have been granted so far.

Reang expressed frustration, stating that although he is 70 years old and belongs to a Below Poverty Line (BPL) family of four members, officials in the Social Welfare and Social Education Department have repeatedly told him that his age is “not yet eligible” for the scheme.

Under the state’s social pension scheme, citizens become eligible for old-age benefits at the age of 60. Reang questioned the delay in approval despite meeting the requirement, saying he feels neglected and confused about the rejection.

Visibly distressed, he appealed to the administration to urgently intervene and ensure that he receives the pension he is entitled to.The case highlights concerns over delays and possible discrepancies in the implementation of welfare schemes for senior citizens in the region.
